The Intensive Spanish Program at Universidad de San Andrés is a 4-week course oriented to students who want to significantly improve their Spanish and be immersed in Argentine culture
Courses are carefully tailored by a team of native instructors and professionals with vast experience in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. They are taught are taught at our San Andrés downtown facility in Buenos Aires, conveniently located just blocks from the historic Plaza de Mayo. The program curriculum is complemented with frequent cultural excursions and activities aimed at experiencing the living language of Porteños (residents of Buenos Aires).
The program is designed for students who have had at least three semesters of college level Spanish or the equivalent.
The Intensive Spanish Program at Universidad de San Andrés provides students the opportunity to advance in their degree while living in Argentina and improving their Spanish. A university transcript will be mailed directly to the student’s home university upon successful completion of the program. Given the intensive nature of the one-month program, generally students earn credits for two semester long classes.
Classes are held Monday-Friday from 10am to 2:30pm with a break for lunch.
The course takes advantage of the immersion experience to quickly grow and deepen students' Spanish language level. It provides a systematic review and expansion of grammar and vocabulary, as well as strategies for listening, speaking, reading, and writing in increasingly complex situations. It enables participants to achieve a more natural use of the language in a native context, while also preparing them to take academic courses taught in Spanish with local students.
This is a dynamic, experientially based course which allows students to exercise and improve their Spanish through the study of a wide array of Argentine cultural artefacts, from literary texts and films to popular music and visual arts. The professor will also delve into the living cultural landscape of Buenos Aires, guiding the group to relevant and interesting Buenos Aires happenings, including concerts, art galleries, museums, historical sites and alternative theater productions.

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, students attend an orientation session which covers topics related to health and safety, transportation, communications and cultural adaptation. They will also take a Spanish evaluation to place them in one of the Spanish Language courses.
The purchase of a local health insurance policy is required. Students may petition to waive this requirement if their international policy meets minimum requirements. After letter of acceptance is emitted, petitions will not be accepted. Estimated cost for a local policy is USD $70 per month / $350 per semester. Once admitted, UdeSA will send contact info for local policy which meets requirements including repatriation benefit and complete coverage at hospitals with international standards.
Students are provided housing options in the safest, most desirable and conveniently located neighborhoods within the city of Buenos Aires. They may elect to live close to campus in the beautiful neighborhoods north of the city along the Rio de la Plata. There are many affordable transportation options to get around and to arrive at campus.
San Andrés staff assist with housing arrangements for students based on student preference for one of the following options:
Homestay
Many students opt to stay with carefully selected local families in order to immerse themselves in Argentine culture. This option includes breakfast and dinner every day except dinner on Saturdays.
Apartment
San Andrés provides resources and recommendations for students to find a rented, furnished apartment, usually shared with a roommate.
Residence Hall
San Andrés has a limited number of newly constructed dormitories on campus.
International students studying in Argentina for less than 90 days may enter Argentina on a tourist visa and do not need to acquire a resident visa. Those students who are required to obtain a visa according to the list above and/or will participate in an academic program for longer than 90 days must acquire a Student/Resident VISA for their exchange period. Students should apply through the nearest Argentine consulate as soon as they have received their letter of acceptance as the visa process may take up to three months. Those accepted to UdeSA with less than a three month margin should contact the Office of International Programs for further instructions.
